Only 3 ingredients and 3 reasons why I love this recipe! I know exactly what’s in these treats, so I’m not worried about her getting sick. Also, they’re bite-size so I know I won’t overfeed her and they’re delicious enough to keep her attention while training. Peanut butter banana training treats are one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make for your pup!
This is the first recipe I ever made for Luna and is by far her favorite! If you don’t have a cookie-cutter specific for cutting out tiny pieces, you can easily use objects in your house: bottlecap, boba tea straw, or use a knife to cut out squares. Get creative!

Tips & Tricks
* If you’re interested in getting a cookie cutter like mine, I purchased mine at BobbisCookiesCutters on Etsy. (size 10mm)
* If your dough is too dry, add some water bit by bit. If too wet, gradually add more flour.
* For extra crunchy treats, turn off the heat but leave the treats inside with the door closed until the oven completely cools down.
These look great! Could you please share a link (or the name) for the cookie cutter you used? That would make things so much faster!

Do you use parchment or do you grease the cookie sheets?
I use parchment 🙂
Can you freeze them
Yes they definitely can be!
How long do these treats stay good for?
Best to consume within 2 weeks if kept in fridge. I’d say 1 week in sealed container on shelf but also depending on humidity where you live 🙂
Do you have a link to the cutter at all? I cannot find it anywhere? Thanks 🙂
Here it is!
Bite Size Treat Cookie Cutter
These were my pups first treats he ever had. He loves them so much. I love how easy they are to make! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you so much for trying!!
Would this recipe work if I use coconut flour? My dog needs grain free. Thanks!
You can use coconut flour but start with only a 1/4C and see how the consistency of the dough is. For every 1C of whole wheat flour you only need 1/4C of coconut flour. Hope they turn out tasty!
How long can these be out of the refrigerator?
If you prefer to keep them on the counter, I’d say 1-2 weeks in a sealed container, depends on the humidity levels of where you live. Hope that helps!
Just found this recipe on Pinterest! I have 2 very picky dogs when it comes to training treats…I have the first batch in the oven now! I’m so excited to try these. I didn’t have a cookie cutter so I just rolled them into tiny balls which takes forever but I hope they turn out good!
Luckily dogs don’t know any better when it comes to shape and color. If you want a faster method rather than rolling balls, just roll out flat sheet with the dough, transfer onto a baking sheet and then cut into squares with a knife. Break the pieces apart after they’re baked!
Se puede utilizar harina de Arroz.???
Gracias
Yes rice flour is ok too 🙂 But it the amount of rice flour you need may be different from my recipe
Are these fairly soft? I saw your tip for extra crunchy but wondering how soft they are per the recipe. I just need something fairly soft for my dear senior boy with chewing issues. Thank you!
Yes, I feel they are easily breakable when not baked for too long. However, you’ll have to keep them in the fridge afterwards for them to last longer because of more moisture still being in the biscuit. Happy baking!
You posted a pic of the dog treat cutter, can you tell me where you got it?
Hi! Definitely! I put a link to the dog treat cutter in the post under Tips & Tricks. Its from Etsy 🙂
My pup loves these treats! The first time, I rolled it out and just cut squares. The second time, I rolled the dough into skinny logs and chilled for 30 minutes and then cut 1/4 inch discs.
Oh that’s an amazing idea!! I’ll have to try that as well, sure faster than using the small cookie cutters. Always learning 🙂
Can I use liver in replacement of peanut butter and potato flakes in place of oatmeal?
Yes you could replace liver if you’d like, blend it up or chop into small pieces. I think the potato flakes could technically work but not sure how well your treats would hold shape if you were to use cookie cutters. But I think they’d work well if you were to roll out small balls and press them down with a fork. It might be really sticky? Also be sure your potato flakes don’t have extra seasoning in them. Happy experimenting!
My puppy absolutely love these treats. I also add a little bit of honey in mine.
I can not find a cookie cutter like that anywhere.. I’m having to do them one by one and it takes forever.
Anyone know where I can get one fromm I tried Etsy!
After you roll the dough out, use a knife to cut out small squares! But if you have your heart set on the mini circles, I added the link to where I got my cutter in the “tips” section.
How much does this recipe make?
It depends on what size shape and thickness you make the treats. For the training treat size, I’d say about 160-200grams. I’d guesstimate it would fill up about 2 cups.
I made about 250-300g.
Hello,
Do you know how many calories and sugar are in these?
Hi there,
Oats and bananas are generally low in calories. And there is no added sugar in this recipe, except for the natural sugars found in the bananas. It also depends on the type of peanut butter you are using. Opt for natural peanut butter, to avoid xylitol and other unnatural additives.
Excited to try this for my dogs! How long do these last before they expire?
Let me know how they turn out! I’d say about a week in a sealed container out on the counter, but can be few weeks if kept in the fridge. I’ve had mine for a month before! Also depends on how long you keep them in the oven for. Usually the crunchier they are (less moisture) the longer they last. I hope that helps!
Successful! My dog loves them! I used a small bottle top as the cookie cutter since that was all I had.
I’m so happy it worked well for you! If you have IG and you took pics, please tag me in ’em so I can see how well they turned out! 🙂
Can I only use flour and banana?
I haven’t tried it with only the two ingredients but I can see it working. I would mash the banana first to get it nice and mushy, and then add the flour bit by bit to keep an eye out for the right consistency. I’d also recommend using bit of honey or egg as a substitute for peanut butter. Happy baking!
Yes! It works with only 2 ingredients. I also tried just flour and peanut butter as well as flour and chicken.
I know your comment was a while ago but wanted to say for anyone else who was wondering
Thank you so much for the update and so good to know!
Does it have to be wheat flour? And do you know if it’ll cook right in silicone molds? I’m excited to try these!
You can use any dog-approved flour you wish. My personal favorite is chickpea flour, but I also use oat flour and brown rice flour often as well, even sometimes coconut and almond. I’ve never tried this dough with silicone molds but I don’t see why not? Usually when I use molds, rather than dough consistency I use a batter, so it would be a bit runnier, and the final product comes out more sponge-like. You could try both ways! Please, let me know how it goes 🙂
is It safe to use multi grain flour?
Yes, that should be perfectly fine 🙂
I just made our third batch of these!! Our three dogs love them and I love making their treats:-) I am so glad we know what is in them and nothing is more fun than making cookies for our kiddos. Tha is for the recipe!!
Thank you so much for the feedback!!
This looks great – what was the mold that you used?
If you look under “tips & tricks” in the post I have a link to the cookie-cutter mold that I bought to make these shapes. However, if you can’t wait to make these, just roll out the dough and cut into small squares!
Are these training treats soft or crunchy? Would like something that is somewhat soft.
Good question! These can definitely be made to be on the softer side 🙂 Keep them in the oven for the minimum time, or even earlier because the longer they’re baking the crunchier they will be. They’ll be a bit crunchy on the outside but softer in the middle. I really hope that helps!
My dogs love you. Just so you know………my pack would live on these tiny tasties.
Aw thank you!! Sending your dogs lots of kisses and cuddles 🙂
I just tried this recipe today and they turned out great. I used the top of a marker (after washing it) and it was the perfect size for my 4 month old Havanese puppy. I also have some small cookie cutters and made one tray of “bears and giraffes “. Super cute. Thanks for giving me another use for my over ripe bananas.
Happy to hear they turned out so well! Marker top is a great tip 🙂
How long will they keep?
I’ve kept mine up to a month in a sealed jar in a cool dry place with no problems! If in doubt, keep in the fridge 🙂
Do I HAVE to use a banana???
Nope! However, it does help with the consistency of the dough. If you want to use only peanut butter, I would add in the flour slowly until you get a good workable dough that’s only slightly sticky.
I make a recipe close to this but use pumpkin purée rather than banana so you can try that. I’m excited to try the banana recipe as I know my dogs will love it
Pumpkin is also a favorite here in our house. I wonder which my dogs would choose if it had to be between pumpkin or banana? Tough one! Happy baking!!
I think this is actually a recipe I might be able to make. We’re always looking for great treats for training our service dog puppies and I love the idea of using a straw instead of a cookie cutter. I’ll give it a try and if I fail I’ll send the recipe to my wife since she’s an expert at baking.
It’s nice to give them a variety of flavors! I imagine they’re getting loads of treats from all the training you do with them. Grease the end of the straw so that the dough doesn’t get stuck inside. Also, be sure to use the wider straws, the regular ones may be a bit too tiny. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the extra tips! There’s a boba place across the street from where I live. I’ll save my straw next time I go.
